Two Month Visit

We headed to the doctor this morning for vaccinations and a well visit. I was so happy Michael was with me since he received 3 shots!! Christopher was a trooper! He cried for a little bit, but was calm by the time we left. He has been sleeping most of the day...I'm assuming it is due to the shots. He is actually enjoying some time in the Baby Bjorn while I type this. :)

His stats...He now weighs 11.6 pounds and is 22 3/4 inches long. He is in the 63rd percentile with his weight and 80th percentile with his height. We do however need to keep an eye on the right side of his head...it is starting to get a little flat because he is always on that side. I started to notice it a couple days ago. The doctor says not to be concerned, but to start making him sleep etc. on his left side. Of course I feel like I have failed Christopher in that aspect, but we will get it fixed.

Christopher has started to almost sleep through the night. We have been getting up for one middle of the night feeding usually around 2:00/2:30 so we are hoping in the next month or so we might be able to get him to sleep through the night.

Two more months and we head back for another doctor visit. I'm sure I will be amazed at how much he has grown in the time between, but we will continue to enjoy each and every moment of his development until May.

Love that smile!!!

Loved

Christopher has definitely been spoiled with love since he arrived! I feel like we have a revolving door...between all the family members and friends. This week will be nice because Michael has several days off so we can enjoy being a family of three! He has one more visitor before I head back to school...Auntie Tricia is visiting again! He still needs to meet the Traver Clan (cousins) and Grandpa Rataiczak, but Grandma Miller comes soon!

Happy 1 Month!!

Christopher is 1 month old today!!

A few things to remember about your first month...
*You are starting to grow out of newborn clothes and into 0-3 months. It is more the length than anything.
*You hate to be naked...especially when it comes to baths! Once we wrap you up in a towel you settle down.
*You are GREAT at peeing all over the place when we change your diaper so we change you on the kitchen floor...easy to clean up!
*You started sleeping in your crib on January 31st. We can see you on the video monitor so it puts mommy at ease.
*You tend to be a loud eater when you get your bottle.
*You have been doing great at sleeping during the night between bottles.
*Your first trip out of the house was to the lawyer's office when you were only 8 days old.
*You like to shop! You have been to Target, Sam's Club and Joann Fabrics. You slept during all three trips. :)
*You enjoy movement...driving in the car or walks in your stroller.
*You are not a fan of your sunglasses.
*You do great at working to lift your head when mommy, daddy and grandma work with you!
*You have a strong grip!

We look forward to many more firsts and the ways you will grow in month two. We now understand the reason why we had to wait so long for a baby...God was preparing to bring you in our life. We love you bunches and look forward to many more happy months with our family of three!

A Family of Three

This is the post I have wanted to write since our journey to become parents began!!! We welcomed Christopher Michael into our home on Saturday!!! We basically received a call that a baby had been born and that the birth mother wanted to place him with us. Michael called to tell me and my body went into shock...I was shaking, scared, crying and excited! We spent one night in the hospital and brought him home. We are in love with this adorable bundle of joy! I am taking a little over 10 weeks off work and I will enjoy every single minute of it even if that means being sleep deprived. Christopher has already been spoiled rotten with friends arriving with gifts, gifts via mail and the mini "baby shower" we came home to. I will post more about our precious bundle of joy when I have time...It looks like 2013 will be a great year!!!

Happy New Year!

2013 is here! The older I get the faster the years fly by! What will 2013 bring? Hopefully is will be a year filled with laughter and time spent with family and friends. We hope to run our first 5K...maybe a couple, and I pray that I am able to pass National Boards the first time! Maybe we can finally upgrade Michael's cell phone from a flip phone (or dumb phone as my stepsister calls it) to a smartphone. We hope his car makes it through 2013...225,000 miles and still going. Of course, there is the obvious...adopting a baby. While I hate to think about it I'm sure we will run into more hurdles, but it will only make us stronger. We will celebrate our 7th year of marriage, 11th year of being a couple and our 8th year of living in South Carolina. I'm sure there are many more things we will change, experience or conquer in 2013. I hope you are able to achieve your goals in 2013 and that it is filled with laughter, love and happiness!!!

Frustrated

I'm sure I have mentioned that we receive recruitment emails every now and then from the agency. In an email like this it gives us information about an expectant mother (EM) and her baby. We can respond if we are interested in being considered for the baby or we can do nothing. If we respond that we are interested than the agency sends out more information and we can either go forward or decide the baby isn't a good fit for us.

We received a recruitment email in November and were interested in being considered for the baby...so did 19 other couples and we weren't chosen. We knew our chances were slim, but we had hope. Rejection hurts! We received another email this week with information on a EM and her baby that we wanted to be considered for. Yesterday, we received more information about the EM and baby and after researching a few of our concerns we decided not to move forward.

What frustrated me while researching the issues/concerns (I can't be specific due to privacy issues.) was the simple fact that I'm having to research what effects a baby could have due to the choices the EM has made or is making. Yes, I know women put their babies up for adoption for a reason and the situation isn't going to be perfect, but if I could have my own baby I wouldn't do anything that could affect his/her health. Life is a precious gift, and I'm having a really hard time understanding why I can't have a baby of my own!!!!!
